Texas Instruments Introduces New Development Kit for OMAP(TM) Wireless Processors
Innovator(TM) Development Kit Fastest Route for Software Designers to Create, Demonstrate 2.5G, 3G Applications That Support Popular Mobile Operating Systems Using TI's OMAP Processors
DALLAS, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Wireless software developers and device
manufacturers will be able to create and showcase innovative applications on a
sleek, versatile development kit from Texas Instruments Incorporated
(NYSE: TXN - news; TI).
The new Innovator(TM) Development Kit for OMAP processing
platform will allow wireless software developers to easily port high-
performance applications to TI's widely adopted family of OMAP application
processors, and reduces time to market for device manufacturers to deliver
2.5G and 3G mobile phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and mobile
Internet devices.
Symbian OS is one of the first operating systems to be
supported, extending the Innovator kit's capabilities to software developers
and mobile phone manufactures developing on Symbian OS.
"With the Innovator Development Kit for the OMAP platform, TI will help
wireless application developers, manufacturers and operators quickly develop
wireless communications-centric applications and services that provide new
dimensions to users' mobile experiences," said David Potts, worldwide director
of applications for TI's OMAP platform.
"TI will work with Symbian to offer
the Innovator kit to its application developers to continue support for TI's
OMAP platform as the ideal solution for software developers and device
manufacturers to deliver innovative applications for 2.5G and 3G mobile
devices."
"Symbian and TI have been working closely together to ensure that the
Innovator Development Kit for the OMAP platform is one of the best development
and demonstration platforms today for Symbian OS developers, enabling them to
create rich multimedia, gaming, secure mobile commerce, enterprise
applications and more on mobile phones," said Mark Edwards, Executive Vice
President, Sales & Marketing Symbian.
"The new kit is the first development
platform with a 'click-wrap licensing agreement,' which will provide the
Symbian developer community with quick and easy access to Symbian OS."
Designed to support developers creating applications for all popular
operating systems, such as Symbian OS, Linux, Microsoft Windows CE and Palm
OS, and major programming environments such as Java, TI's Innovator
Development Kit for the OMAP platform is a flexible development and
demonstration platform, which will support all leading wireless standards.
TI's Innovator Development Kit for the OMAP platform will provide
application developers with an open software development and demonstration
environment using a modular hardware approach.
The interface module, which
will include a number of unique interface features, can be customized
depending on a wireless device manufacturer's or OS provider's specifications
for different device form factors.
Optional expansion modules will include
support for GSM/GPRS, 802.11b and Bluetooth.
An available breakout board will
include additional external peripherals and a 10Mb Ethernet connection.
The
Innovator kit's baseboard will give application developers the ability to
easily call on the enhanced media processing capabilities in TI's powerful
digital signal processing (DSP) core in the OMAP 1510 processor, using
familiar, existing high-level OS development tools.
